Job Description

Are you a highly skilled, responsible, and safety-conscious driver with an unwavering passion for humanitarian work? World Vision is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Driver to join our dynamic team based in Kikwit, Kwilu Province, DR Congo. This pivotal role is absolutely essential for the seamless, efficient, and above all, safe execution of our extensive field operations. As a Driver for NGO Field Movement, you will be instrumental in ensuring that our dedicated staff, vital partners, and critical resources reach the communities we serve across diverse and often challenging terrains, promptly and securely. Your daily responsibilities will place you at the forefront of our logistical support, involving the safe transportation of personnel, sensitive equipment, and essential supplies. A paramount aspect of this role is upholding the highest standards of safety for all passengers and cargo, strictly adhering to World Vision’s comprehensive safety protocols, national traffic regulations, and internal security guidelines. This position demands not only exceptional driving acumen but also an outstanding degree of reliability, integrity, discretion, and adaptability, especially when faced with unforeseen circumstances. You will play a crucial and direct role in facilitating our various community interventions, immediate emergency responses, and rigorous program monitoring activities, which frequently require navigating unpaved roads, remote villages, and potentially challenging environments. Beyond the wheel, you will be entrusted with the daily inspection and proactive routine maintenance of your assigned vehicle, ensuring it remains in optimal and safe working condition at all times. This includes diligent monitoring of fuel levels, fluid checks, performing minor roadside repairs when necessary, and expertly coordinating major servicing with approved vendors. Meticulous record-keeping is vital; you will maintain accurate vehicle logs, detail travel routes, document fuel consumption, and track maintenance schedules precisely. Excellent communication skills are paramount, as you will interact regularly with various team members, local authorities, community leaders, and beneficiaries. You must be proactive in identifying potential operational risks, reporting incidents or hazards promptly, and contributing to a culture of safety. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently transport World Vision staff, partners, beneficiaries, and visitors to various field locations within Kikwit and across Kwilu Province, adhering to all traffic laws and organizational safety protocols.
  • Ensure the secure and timely delivery of equipment, materials, and supplies to project sites.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle to ensure it is in excellent operating condition.
  • Perform minor vehicle repairs and routine maintenance tasks (e.g., checking oil, water, tires, brakes) and report any significant mechanical issues to the logistics department promptly.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle logbooks, including mileage, fuel consumption, routes, and maintenance records.
  • Adhere to World Vision’s vehicle security procedures and ensure the vehicle is always parked in a safe and secure location.
  • Assist with loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring proper securing of items during transit.
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized vehicle interior and exterior.
  • Communicate effectively with passengers, logistics staff, and security personnel regarding travel plans, delays, or emergencies.
  • Assist with basic administrative tasks as required, such as delivering documents or purchasing small items.
  • Abide by all World Vision policies, including child protection, code of conduct, and security regulations.

Required Skills

  • Valid professional driving license for passenger and cargo vehicles (Category B, C, or equivalent as per DRC regulations).
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven professional driving experience, preferably with an NGO or international organization in challenging field environments.
  • Excellent knowledge of local traffic laws, routes, and road conditions within Kikwit and Kwilu Province.
  • Basic vehicle maintenance and repair skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in French and Lingala; knowledge of other local languages is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of safety and security protocols.
  • High degree of reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Defensive driving certification or advanced driving course completion.
  • Experience driving 4×4 vehicles in off-road conditions.
  • First aid training certification.
  • Previous experience working in a humanitarian or development context in DRC.
