Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Driller to join our dynamic team, focusing on critical exploration and production drilling activities within our mining and extraction operations. Based out of our regional logistics and support hub in Goma, you will be deployed to various operational sites within North Kivu and neighboring provinces as required, playing a pivotal role in the discovery, evaluation, and extraction of valuable mineral resources. As a Driller with SOKIMO, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of drilling machinery, including core drilling rigs, reverse circulation (RC) rigs, and rotary blasthole drills. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring accurate and efficient drilling to gather geological data, delineate ore bodies, and prepare blast holes for extraction. You will work closely with geologists, engineers, and other operational personnel, contributing directly to the success of our projects. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain various drilling rigs (e.g., core, RC, blasthole) safely and efficiently.
  • Execute drilling programs according to geological and engineering specifications.
  • Perform pre-start checks, routine maintenance, and minor repairs on drilling equipment.
  • Monitor drilling progress, record accurate data, and report on operational parameters.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Interpret drilling plans, geological maps, and site instructions.
  • Manage drilling consumables (bits, rods, fluids) and ensure their optimal use.
  • Collaborate effectively with geologists, engineers, and other site personnel.
  • Participate in risk assessments and implement corrective actions for identified hazards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Driller in mining or heavy construction.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operating core, RC, or blasthole drilling rigs.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment maintenance.
  • Thorough understanding of drilling methodologies, ground conditions, and rock mechanics.
  • Excellent adherence to safety protocols and practices in hazardous environments.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good physical condition and ability to work in remote, challenging outdoor environments.
  • Basic report writing and data recording skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical qualification or vocational training in drilling operations, mechanics, or a related field.
  • Valid heavy equipment operator's license relevant to drilling machinery.
  • Experience with specific drilling rig models common in large-scale mining operations.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of French or Swahili for effective communication within the local workforce.
