Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostic assessments of drainage issues using various methods, including CCTV drain surveys and acoustic detection.
- Execute effective drain unblocking and cleaning services using high-pressure water jetting, electro-mechanical cleaning, and manual rodding techniques.
- Identify and rectify complex drainage problems, including root ingress, collapsed pipes, structural defects, and fat, oil, and grease (FOG) build-up.
- Maintain and operate specialist drainage equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring regular checks, calibration, and basic maintenance.
- Provide clear, concise, and professional explanations of findings and recommended solutions to clients, offering accurate quotes where applicable.
- Complete job sheets, reports, risk assessments, and other necessary documentation accurately and on time, ensuring compliance.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practice guidelines at all times.
- Participate in an on-call rota for emergency drainage services, responding promptly and professionally.
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction through polite, efficient, tidy work practices, and proactive communication.
- Communicate effectively with office staff, other team members, and clients regarding job progress, technical requirements, and scheduling.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 1 year) as a Drain Cleaner Technician or similar role in the drainage industry.
- Proficiency in operating high-pressure water jetting equipment (WJPA Blue/Red card preferred, or willingness to obtain).
- Experience with electro-mechanical drain cleaning machines (e.g., sectional and drum machines).
- Ability to conduct CCTV drain surveys and accurately interpret findings, using relevant software.
- Strong understanding of various drainage systems, common fault diagnoses, and appropriate repair methods.
- Full UK Driving License (clean record preferred) and comfortable driving a company van.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a methodical and analytical approach to complex issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client interaction and team collaboration.
- Ability to work independently, manage workload efficiently, and prioritise tasks under pressure.
- Unwavering commitment to health and safety procedures and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- WJPA (Water Jetting Association) qualification.
- NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing or Drainage Operations or equivalent.
- Experience with trenchless repair methods (e.g., pipe lining, patch repairs).
- Valid CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
- Basic plumbing knowledge for related tasks.
- First Aid certification.
