Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Medical Officer/Consultant to join our expanding team in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Uyo. Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive primary and secondary medical care to patients across various age groups.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions, ensuring evidence-based treatment.
- Order and accurately interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory results and imaging studies.
- Develop and implement individualized patient treatment plans, monitoring progress and adjusting as needed.
- Perform minor surgical procedures, suturing, and other emergency interventions confidently and competently.
- Administer medications and treatments according to established clinical guidelines and protocols.
- Educate patients and their families on health management, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle modifications.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date patient medical records in compliance with regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and specialist consultants.
- Participate actively in daily ward rounds, outpatient clinic sessions, and on-call emergency duties.
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and medical research where applicable.
- Adhere strictly to medical ethics, professional guidelines, and all hospital policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Medical Doctor (MBBS/MBBCh) degree from a recognized and accredited institution.
- Valid medical license to practice in Nigeria (current MDCN registration).
- Minimum of 3 years post-NYSC clinical experience in a busy hospital setting.
- Excellent diagnostic acumen and strong clinical decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in emergency medical procedures, trauma management, and basic life support (BLS).
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and patient counseling skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a deeply patient-centred approach to care.
- Sound knowledge of medical ethics, patient confidentiality, and current medical best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership or Fellowship of a relevant Medical College (e.g., West African College of Physicians, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria) or equivalent post-graduate qualification.
- Prior experience in diverse medical specialties such as General Practice, Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, or Obstetrics/Gynaecology.
- Additional certifications in advanced life support (ACLS, PALS, ATLS).
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other healthcare technology.
- Experience working in a reputable private hospital setting within Nigeria.
