Key Responsibilities
- Examine patients' teeth, gums, and surrounding tissues to diagnose and provide appropriate dental treatment.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients, explaining procedures and expected outcomes clearly.
- Perform a variety of dental procedures, including fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns, bridges, and prosthetics.
- Administer local anesthesia and sedation as required to manage patient discomfort during procedures.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, dietary habits, and preventative care to maintain optimal oral health.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including dental histories, treatment plans, and progress notes.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in dental technology and techniques through continuous professional development.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals within the centre to provide holistic patient care when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, as well as professional ethical standards.
- Manage and mentor dental assistants and support staff to ensure efficient clinic operations.
Required Skills
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DDM) degree from an accredited institution.
- Current and valid dental license to practice in Nigeria.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-NYSC clinical experience in general dentistry.
- Proficiency in diagnosing oral diseases and conditions.
- Excellent manual dexterity and precision for performing dental procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Empathy and patience, particularly when dealing with anxious or young patients.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and clinical judgment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership in a professional dental association (e.g., Nigerian Dental Association).
- Experience with digital imaging and modern dental software.
- Additional certifications or specialization in areas such as orthodontics, periodontics, or cosmetic dentistry.
- Experience working in a busy hospital or multi-specialty clinic environment.
- Fluency in local languages in addition to English (e.g., Ikwerre, Ijaw).
