Job Description

DC Thomson is seeking a talented and highly motivated Remote Contract Data Analyst to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal contract role, you will be instrumental in transforming raw data into actionable insights that drive business strategy across our varied brands and platforms. As a Data Analyst, you will collaborate closely with various departments, including editorial, marketing, product development, and finance, to identify key trends, measure performance, and inform data-driven decision-making. Key Responsibilities

  • Gather, clean, and process large datasets from various internal and external sources (e.g., web analytics, CRM, sales) to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies that can inform business decisions across content, marketing, and product.
  • Develop and maintain robust dashboards and reports using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Google Data Studio to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across departments (e.g., marketing, editorial, product) to understand their data needs and provide tailored analytical support and insights.
  • Translate complex data findings into clear, concise, and actionable recommendations for non-technical audiences through compelling presentations and reports.
  • Design and implement A/B tests and other experimental designs to evaluate the impact of new features, content formats, or marketing campaigns.
  • Support strategic initiatives by providing data-driven insights on audience engagement, content performance, subscription growth, advertising effectiveness, and user behaviour.
  • Document data sources, methodologies, and analysis processes to ensure reproducibility, consistency, and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices in data analysis, reporting, data visualization, and emerging tools/technologies to continuously improve our analytical capabilities.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Data Analyst or in a similar analytical role (minimum 3 years).
  • Strong proficiency in SQL for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis.
  • Expertise in data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio, or similar.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and complex formulas for data manipulation and reporting.
  • Solid understanding of statistical analysis concepts and methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex data insights clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a remote contract environment.
  • Experience with web analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with Python or R for data analysis, statistical modeling, and scripting.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, Google BigQuery).
  • Previous experience working in the media, publishing, or digital content industry.
  • Understanding of machine learning concepts and predictive analytics applications.
