Job Description

Dana Air is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Safety Officer to join our dynamic team in Nsukara Nsit, Uyo. This pivotal role is essential in maintaining our industry-leading safety standards and ensuring strict compliance with all national and international aviation regulations. As a Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in fostering a proactive safety culture throughout the organization, from ground operations to flight deck. You will be responsible for the continuous development, implementation, and oversight of our Safety Management System (SMS), conducting thorough risk assessments, and meticulously investigating any safety-related incidents or concerns. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the airline's Safety Management System (SMS) in compliance with Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regulations and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and assessments of all operational areas, including flight operations, ground handling, maintenance, and cabin services.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses thoroughly, identify root causes, and recommend effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Perform comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop mitigation strategies to minimize operational risks.
  • Prepare detailed safety reports, analyses, and presentations for management, highlighting trends, performance metrics, and areas for improvement.
  • Facilitate and deliver safety training programs for all personnel to enhance safety awareness and competency across the organization.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety initiatives and procedures, making recommendations for enhancements as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of aviation safety regulations, industry best practices, and technological advancements.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and other industry stakeholders on safety-related matters.
  • Promote a robust safety culture, encouraging open reporting and proactive participation from all employees.

Required Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of NCAA regulations and ICAO Annexes related to aviation safety.
  • Proven experience in Safety Management System (SMS) implementation and management.
  • Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment and hazard identification methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex safety information clearly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to conduct effective safety audits and inspections.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification in Aviation Safety Management (e.g., IATA, ICAO, ISASI, NEBOSH).
  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation Safety, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific aircraft types operated by Dana Air (e.g., Boeing MD-83).
  • Previous experience in a similar Safety Officer role within a commercial airline or aviation regulatory body.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) principles.
  • Fluency in additional Nigerian languages.
