Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Crane Operator to join our dynamic industrial construction team in Calabar. As a Crane Operator, you will play a critical role in the safe and efficient movement of heavy materials and equipment across our project sites. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate various types of cranes (e.g., mobile cranes, tower cranes) safely and efficiently, as per project requirements.
  • Perform daily pre-operational checks and routine maintenance on cranes and lifting accessories to ensure safe operation.
  • Interpret load charts, crane specifications, and lifting plans accurately.
  • Coordinate closely with riggers, signal persons, and site supervisors during lifting operations.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of crane operations, inspections, and any incidents or mechanical issues.
  • Ensure proper rigging and securing of loads before lifting, verifying weight and balance.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards on the job site related to crane operations.
  • Participate in safety briefings and contribute to a proactive safety culture on site.
  • Assist with basic equipment maintenance and report complex issues to mechanics.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Crane Operator in an industrial or heavy construction setting.
  • Valid crane operator certification/license (e.g., NCCCO, or local equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of crane mechanics, rigging techniques, and load dynamics.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and load charts.
  • Excellent spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and depth perception.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with ground crews and project management.
  • Physical fitness to perform duties, including climbing and working at heights.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certification in heavy equipment operation.
  • Experience with multiple types and capacities of cranes.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for minor on-site adjustments.
  • Experience working on large-scale civil engineering or industrial projects.
