As a Construction Site Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our construction sites. You will work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and skilled tradespeople, providing essential support that underpins the success of every project. Your daily tasks will be varied, offering a comprehensive introduction to various aspects of construction, from site preparation and material handling to assisting with specific trades and maintaining site safety and cleanliness. Key Responsibilities
- Assist skilled tradespeople (carpenters, electricians, plumbers, etc.) with various tasks as directed.
- Perform general labour duties, including site cleanup, debris removal, and maintaining an organized workspace.
- Load, unload, and distribute construction materials and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Operate basic hand and power tools under supervision, adhering to all safety guidelines.
- Help with site preparation, including digging, trenching, and ground leveling.
- Erect and dismantle temporary structures, scaffolding, and barricades as required.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and procedures, wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Support the setup and teardown of construction sites, including temporary fencing and signage.
- Monitor inventory of materials and supplies, reporting shortages to the site supervisor.
- Participate in daily site briefings and contribute to a positive and productive team environment.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude.
- Basic understanding of construction site safety practices.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable transportation to various job sites in the Hamilton area.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and environments.
- Good communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience on a construction site, even if informal.
- Valid G-class driver's license with a clean driving record.
- WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) certification.
- Working at Heights certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with basic construction tools and machinery.
