Job Description
World Vision Mozambique is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Community Mobilizer (Mobilizador Comunitário) for an immediate start, based in Maputo. This pivotal role involves actively engaging with local communities, facilitating their participation in World Vision’s development and humanitarian programs, and ensuring that project interventions are culturally sensitive, contextually relevant, and community-led. The Community Mobilizer will serve as a crucial link between World Vision and the communities we serve, building trust, fostering collaboration, and empowering local stakeholders to drive their own development initiatives. You will be instrumental in raising awareness about project goals, mobilizing community members for various activities such as workshops, training sessions, and health campaigns, and supporting the formation and strengthening of community-based committees. Furthermore, you will be responsible for conducting participatory assessments, collecting valuable feedback, and documenting lessons learned to inform program adjustments and ensure maximum impact. This role requires an individual with excellent interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of community dynamics, and a strong commitment to empowering the most vulnerable populations, especially children. You will be working closely with program officers and local leaders, advocating for community needs and ensuring that their voices are heard and incorporated into project planning and implementation. Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate active community participation in all project phases, from planning to evaluation.
- Organize and conduct community meetings, workshops, and awareness campaigns on project themes (e.g., health, WASH, child protection).
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with community leaders, local authorities, and community members.
- Identify and train community volunteers and community-based organizations to support project implementation.
- Collect and document community feedback, concerns, and suggestions to inform program adjustments.
- Conduct participatory assessments and data collection at the community level.
- Support the distribution of project materials and resources to beneficiaries.
- Prepare regular progress reports on community mobilization activities.
- Promote gender equality, social inclusion, and child safeguarding practices within communities.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in community mobilization or development work.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong ability to build rapport.
- Fluency in Portuguese (written and spoken) and proficiency in relevant local dialects.
- Strong understanding of local customs, traditions, and community dynamics in Mozambique.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (Word, Excel).
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and empathy towards vulnerable populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Public Health, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with an international NGO or humanitarian organization.
- Experience in data collection and basic report writing.
- Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding principles.
