Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and proactive Communications Executive to join our dedicated Corporate Communications team at Mansfield District Council. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and distribute engaging press releases, statements, and articles to local and regional media outlets.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for media enquiries, providing timely and accurate information and coordinating interviews with spokespersons.
  • Manage and update the Council’s website content, ensuring information is current, accessible, and user-friendly.
  • Plan, create, and schedule compelling content for the Council’s social media channels (e.g., Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn), responding to comments and messages as appropriate.
  • Support the development and implementation of integrated communications campaigns for key Council initiatives and projects.
  • Monitor media coverage and social media conversations, providing regular reports on sentiment and reach.
  • Assist in crisis communications, drafting rapid responses and managing sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to identify communication opportunities and gather information for public dissemination.
  • Maintain an up-to-date media contact list and foster strong relationships with journalists.
  • Contribute to the overall communications strategy, identifying trends and recommending innovative approaches.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a communications, press, PR, or digital marketing role.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for clear and concise messaging.
  • Strong understanding of traditional media relations, including writing for press and managing media enquiries.
  • Proficiency in managing and creating content for various social media platforms.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) for website updates.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience working within a public sector, local government, or not-for-profit organisation.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) for creating visual content.
  • Knowledge of local government operations and public policy.
  • Experience with media monitoring and analytics tools.
