Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis of loan applications, including comprehensive reviews of business and personal financial statements, tax returns, and detailed cash flow projections.
  • Assess and effectively mitigate credit risk by thoroughly evaluating borrower capacity, capital, conditions, collateral, and character (the universally recognized 5 Cs of credit).
  • Prepare detailed and well-structured credit memos and confidently present insightful recommendations to senior management and established credit committees.
  • Ensure that all credit decisions scrupulously comply with internal policies, established procedures, and all relevant regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor existing loan portfolios rigorously for any signs of deterioration and proactively recommend appropriate and timely actions.
  • Collaborate strategically with Relationship Managers to deeply understand client needs and to expertly structure appropriate and tailored credit solutions.
  • Perform meticulous collateral valuation and comprehensive analysis to robustly support all lending decisions.
  • Maintain accurate, highly organized, and meticulously documented credit files.
  • Stay continuously informed of evolving industry trends, prevailing economic conditions, and any changes in credit regulations.
  • Provide exceptional, responsive, and professional service to both internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in credit analysis, underwriting, or a very similar financial role (minimum 2 years).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and commonly used analysis software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly.
  • Ability to accurately interpret complex financial data and draw sound, logical conclusions.
  • High attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel.
  • Comprehensive understanding of credit risk management principles.
  • Sound judgment and confident decision-making abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Professional certifications such as Credit Risk Management (CRM) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) candidacy.
  • Direct experience with commercial lending and various complex loan products.
  • In-depth knowledge of local Hawaii market economic conditions and business landscape.
  • Familiarity with relevant banking regulations (e.g., SOX, Dodd-Frank, where applicable).
