Job Description
Are you a meticulous and driven professional with a passion for maritime logistics and import processing? Grimaldi Agency Nigeria Ltd is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Clearing Officer to join our dynamic team in Akim Qua Town, Calabar. This is a critical on-site role that stands at the heart of our operations, ensuring the swift and compliant movement of goods through the port. As a Clearing Officer, you will be instrumental in managing the entire import clearing process, from documentation submission to liaising with customs officials and port authorities. Your expertise will directly impact our operational efficiency and our clients’ satisfaction, playing a vital role in keeping global trade flowing through Calabar Port.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit accurate customs documentation for import shipments (e.g., Form M, PAAR, Bill of Lading, manifest, customs declarations).
- Liaise effectively with Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), shipping companies, and other relevant government agencies to facilitate prompt cargo clearance.
- Monitor and track the status of shipments, providing regular updates to internal teams and clients.
- Ensure strict adherence to all import regulations, tariffs, and trade compliance requirements.
- Calculate and process customs duties, levies, and other charges accurately.
- Resolve discrepancies, queries, and challenges related to cargo clearance in a timely and efficient manner.
- Coordinate with transporters for the timely evacuation of cleared cargo from the port.
- Maintain comprehensive and organized records of all clearing activities and documentation.
- Stay updated on changes in customs laws, policies, and port procedures.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to clients and internal stakeholders on import documentation and procedures.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in customs clearing and freight forwarding.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian Customs laws, tariffs, HS codes, and import/export regulations.
- Proficiency in customs declaration systems (e.g., ASYCUDA++).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
- High level of integrity and ethical conduct.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification in Customs Management (e.g., National Certificate in Customs Management – NCM) or Freight Forwarding.
- Existing network and strong working relationships with key port and customs officials in Calabar.
- Experience with a major shipping line or freight forwarding company.
