Key Responsibilities
- Assist project engineers in preparing detailed engineering drawings, plans, and specifications for various civil infrastructure projects using advanced CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Perform accurate calculations related to civil engineering projects, including material quantities, earthwork volumes, drainage capacities, grades, and horizontal/vertical alignments.
- Conduct thorough site visits, topographic surveys, and construction inspections to gather precise data, verify existing site conditions, and meticulously monitor construction progress against design specifications.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, detailed memos, and other essential project documentation, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, lead engineers, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure all project deadlines, budgetary constraints, and quality objectives are consistently met.
- Proactively review engineering plans, designs, and specifications for accuracy, completeness, and strict compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain meticulous project files, drawings, and all related documentation in an organized, accessible, and up-to-date manner.
- Support the design and analytical phases of various civil infrastructure components, such as roadways, storm drainage systems, sanitary sewer networks, utility layouts, and comprehensive site development plans.
- Utilize Geographic Information System (GIS) software to analyze spatial data, create detailed maps, and support data-driven decision-making for project planning and design.
Required Skills
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a closely related technical field.
- Minimum of 2 years of progressive professional experience as a Civil Technician, Engineering Designer, or a similar role within the civil engineering sector.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is mandatory.
- Strong foundational understanding of civil engineering principles, drafting standards, and construction practices.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret complex engineering plans, intricate schematics, and comprehensive construction documents.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical information clearly.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid driver's license and the flexibility to travel to various project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline.
- Direct experience with specialized civil design software such as Civil 3D, InRoads, or OpenRoads Designer.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations and permitting processes pertaining to civil engineering projects in Pennsylvania.
- Proficiency with GIS software applications (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Previous experience working specifically on transportation (roadways, bridges), water resources (stormwater, wastewater), or municipal infrastructure projects.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse, multicultural team environment, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
