As a Civil Engineer focusing on Road & Bridge Construction, you will be instrumental in the entire project lifecycle, from initial design and planning to on-site execution, supervision, and quality assurance. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in the detailed design and engineering of road networks, bridges, culverts, and associated civil infrastructure.
  • Conduct site investigations, topographical surveys, and geotechnical analysis to inform design decisions and project feasibility.
  • Prepare technical specifications, bill of quantities (BOQ), cost estimates, and tender documents in accordance with national and international standards.
  • Supervise and manage construction activities on-site, ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality control, safety protocols, and project schedules.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions to prevent delays or cost overruns.
  • Collaborate with project managers, surveyors, construction teams, and subcontractors to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Conduct regular quality checks on materials, workmanship, and construction methods.
  • Prepare comprehensive project reports, progress updates, and technical documentation for stakeholders.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all environmental regulations, health, and safety standards on all project sites.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and site staff.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in the design, construction, and supervision of roads, highways, and various bridge types (e.g., concrete, steel).
  • Proficiency in civil engineering design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, SAP2000, ETABS, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and their application in road and bridge construction.
  • Excellent project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant national and international engineering codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in French (official language of DRC).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a challenging field environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality assurance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional certification (e.g., from OIC/Ordre des Ingénieurs Civils du Congo).
  • Experience with FIDIC contract management and project delivery methodologies.
  • Fluency in local Congolese languages such as Lingala or Swahili.
  • Experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects funded by international development banks.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering roles, specifically in road and bridge construction.
