As an Entry Level Civil Engineer, you will be instrumental in supporting various facets of our water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Under the guidance of experienced senior engineers, you will gain hands-on experience in the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of critical water supply systems, sanitation networks, and treatment facilities. Your day-to-day activities will involve assisting with project documentation, conducting site investigations, collecting and analyzing data, and contributing to the preparation of engineering reports and specifications. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in the planning, design, and execution of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and surveys to gather data and monitor project progress.
- Participate in the preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, and project reports using CAD software and other relevant tools.
- Collect and analyze technical data, including hydrological, hydraulic, and geotechnical information, to support engineering decisions.
- Support project managers in maintaining project documentation, schedules, and budgets.
- Learn and apply relevant engineering standards, codes, and WUC's internal policies.
- Contribute to the identification and resolution of engineering challenges under supervision.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Undertake continuous professional development to enhance engineering skills and knowledge.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Strong foundational knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Basic understanding of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- High level of initiative, attention to detail, and a keen desire to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship or practical work experience in a civil engineering or related field.
- Membership or eligibility for membership with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) Botswana as a Candidate Engineer.
- Familiarity with water and wastewater treatment processes and distribution systems.
- Knowledge of local construction standards and environmental regulations in Botswana.
- Basic understanding of project management principles.
