Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Civil Engineer with a strong background in both construction and design to join our dynamic team in Royal Flat, Mandeville. This pivotal role will see you involved in the full lifecycle of our diverse engineering projects, from initial conceptualization and detailed design through to rigorous construction supervision and project completion. You will be instrumental in translating complex engineering challenges into practical, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions that stand the test of time. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of structural analysis, materials science, hydraulics, and geotechnical principles, coupled with hands-on experience in managing site operations effectively. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and participate in the conceptual design, detailed engineering, and structural analysis of various civil engineering projects, including roads, bridges, drainage systems, and building structures.
- Prepare comprehensive engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports using relevant software and industry best practices.
- Conduct thorough site investigations, surveys, and feasibility studies to inform robust design decisions and meticulous project planning.
- Supervise construction activities, ensuring strict adherence to design specifications, quality standards, safety protocols, and project schedules.
- Manage project budgets, resources, and timelines efficiently, identifying potential risks proactively and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate effectively with clients, architects, contractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
- Perform stringent quality control inspections and tests on materials and construction work, maintaining high standards.
- Ensure all designs and construction methodologies comply with local building codes, environmental regulations, and international industry standards.
- Prepare and review technical proposals, bids, and contract documents, contributing to business development.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 60 months (5 years) of proven experience in civil engineering roles, with a strong focus on both design and construction management.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, Staad.Pro).
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials science, project management principles, and quality control procedures.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, technical specifications, and contractual documents.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, capable of managing teams and stakeholder relationships.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently to various project sites across Jamaica as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related specialized field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for registration with the Professional Engineers Registration Board, Jamaica.
- Experience with project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Aconex).
- Familiarity with local Jamaican building codes, environmental regulations, and permitting processes.
- Experience in sustainable design practices, green building certifications (e.g., LEED), and innovative construction technologies.
