Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Engineer specializing in Building/Professional projects to join our dynamic team in Abuja. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the planning, design, execution, and successful completion of various building construction projects, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. This role demands a professional with a robust understanding of structural engineering principles, construction methodologies, project management, and site supervision. You will be instrumental in transforming architectural visions into tangible structures, managing resources efficiently, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
As a Civil Engineer – Building/Professional at Julius Berger, you will play a pivotal role in reviewing designs, conducting feasibility studies, preparing detailed reports, and monitoring construction progress from inception to handover. You will be expected to identify and mitigate potential risks, implement corrective actions, and ensure all project milestones are met within scope, budget, and schedule. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise all stages of building construction projects, from initial design review to final handover, ensuring compliance with specifications and timelines.
- Conduct detailed structural analysis and design calculations for various building components (foundations, superstructures, etc.) using industry-standard software.
- Perform regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality of workmanship, and adherence to safety regulations.
- Prepare comprehensive project reports, including progress reports, technical specifications, cost estimates, and material schedules.
- Collaborate effectively with architects, M&E engineers, contractors, and clients to resolve technical issues and ensure seamless project execution.
- Review and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and technical specifications to ensure constructability and compliance with design intent.
- Ensure all construction activities comply with relevant Nigerian building codes, international standards, and company safety policies.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers and site staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to prevent delays or cost overruns.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in structural design software (e.g., Staad.Pro, Etabs, SAP2000, Orion)
- Expertise in AutoCAD and other CAD software for drafting and design review
- Strong understanding of concrete, steel, and timber design principles
- Thorough knowledge of Nigerian building codes and construction regulations
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Minimum of 5 years of post-NYSC experience in building construction projects
Preferred Qualifications
- COREN (Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria) registration is highly preferred.
- Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
- Experience with sustainable building practices and green construction standards.
- Proficiency in BIM software (e.g., Revit Structure).
- Proven track record of managing large-scale, complex building projects.
