Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate CapMetro transit buses on designated routes and schedules, adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all passengers, including assisting with boarding and alighting, answering questions, and addressing concerns professionally.
  • Collect fares and issue transfers accurately, ensuring proper payment procedures are followed.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, reporting any mechanical defects or safety issues promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and comfortable environment for passengers during their commute.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and other team members using two-way radio systems.
  • Manage unexpected situations such as traffic delays, detours, or passenger incidents with calmness and good judgment.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and accessibility requirements for passengers with disabilities.
  • Complete necessary paperwork, including trip sheets, incident reports, and passenger counts.

Required Skills

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Passenger (P) endorsement and Airbrake (A) restriction removed (training provided).
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to regulations.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions and schedules.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
  • Familiarity with the Austin metropolitan area.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
