Job Description

Chevron Nigeria is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Electrical Technician to join our dynamic team in Uyo. This is an immediate hiring opportunity for an individual with a proven track record in electrical systems maintenance and troubleshooting within an industrial or oil and gas environment. As an Electrical Technician, you will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability and operational efficiency of our critical electrical infrastructure. Your expertise will directly contribute to maintaining the continuity of our operations, adhering to the highest safety and environmental standards. This role involves working with a diverse range of electrical equipment, from power generation and distribution systems to control circuits and instrumentation. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on various electrical systems and components, including motors, generators, transformers, switchgear, control panels, and lighting systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical faults using schematics, multimeters, and other testing equipment.
  • Install, calibrate, and maintain electrical instrumentation and control systems, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Conduct routine inspections of electrical equipment and wiring to identify potential hazards or failures.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, confined space entry).
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment status in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Collaborate with other technicians, engineers, and operational staff to ensure seamless integration and reliable operation of electrical systems.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians or apprentices as required.
  • Order and manage spare parts and consumables for electrical maintenance tasks.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems (low and medium voltage).
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and repair of motors, generators, transformers, and control circuits.
  • Knowledge of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and industrial control systems.
  • Familiarity with relevant electrical codes and safety standards (e.g., NFPA 70E, IEEE).
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in using electrical testing equipment (multimeters, meggers, oscilloscopes).
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to strict safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as COREN (Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria) or equivalent.
  • Experience with SAP PM or other enterprise CMMS for maintenance management.
  • Prior experience in the oil and gas industry or heavy industrial settings.
  • Familiarity with hazardous area classifications and equipment (ATEX, IECEx).
  • Advanced training in specific control systems or instrumentation brands.
