Job Description
Chevron Nigeria Limited is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Drilling Supervisor to join our dynamic team in Orile, Lagos. This critical role is essential for overseeing and ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of drilling operations. As a Drilling Supervisor, you will be on the front lines, directing crew activities, managing equipment, and ensuring strict adherence to all Chevron operational standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating all aspects of drilling operations, from well preparation to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining the highest levels of integrity and environmental responsibility. This role demands exceptional leadership skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise daily drilling operations, ensuring strict adherence to well programs, company policies, and safety standards.
- Monitor drilling parameters, equipment performance, and well conditions to optimize efficiency and prevent operational issues.
- Conduct pre-tour and post-tour meetings, safety briefings, and job hazard analyses (JHAs) with drilling crews.
- Manage and coordinate activities of service contractors and third-party personnel on the rig site.
- Ensure all drilling equipment is maintained, inspected, and operated safely and effectively.
- Implement emergency response plans and lead incident management efforts when necessary.
- Prepare comprehensive daily drilling reports, including progress, costs, and challenges.
- Optimize drilling fluid properties, cementing operations, and casing running procedures.
- Mentor and train junior drilling personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with drilling operations to prevent accidents and downtime.
- Liaise effectively with subsurface teams, logistics, and supply chain to ensure seamless operations.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new drilling technologies and best practices.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in drilling operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Extensive knowledge of drilling fluids, cementing, casing, and well control techniques.
- Proficiency in drilling software and reporting tools.
- Strong understanding of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) regulations and practices in the oil and gas industry.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and in complex situations.
- Valid IWCF (International Well Control Forum) certification at Supervisor level.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage diverse teams and foster a collaborative work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with deepwater or complex well drilling operations.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment, particularly within Nigeria.
- Proficiency in advanced drilling technologies and automation.
