Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and oversee the daily operations of the kitchen, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation.
  • Develop and update menus to reflect seasonal availability, guest preferences, and culinary trends, ensuring creativity and variety.
  • Manage kitchen inventory, including ordering supplies, receiving deliveries, and minimizing waste to maintain cost efficiency.
  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety standards, hygiene regulations, and health codes at all times.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise kitchen staff, fostering a positive and productive team environment.
  • Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation to ensure consistency and guest satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the Food & Beverage Manager to set and achieve departmental goals, including budget management and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
  • Handle guest feedback and special requests with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Contribute to the development of new culinary concepts and promotions.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Chef in a hotel or reputable restaurant setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations (HACCP, local health codes).
  • Ability to manage kitchen operations, including inventory, ordering, and staff scheduling.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Creativity in menu development and food presentation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications for inventory and administrative tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Culinary degree or diploma from a recognized institution.
  • Certification in food safety management.
  • Experience with both local Nigerian and international cuisines.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages (e.g., Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo) is a plus.
