Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Head Chefs and Line Cooks with all aspects of food preparation, including washing, chopping, slicing, dicing, and portioning ingredients.
  • Execute the preparation of various food items according to established recipes, ensuring consistency and adherence to Browns Socialhouse quality standards.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, such as grills, fryers, ovens, and mixers.
  • Maintain a scrupulously clean and organized workstation and kitchen area throughout service, adhering strictly to all food safety and sanitation guidelines (HACCP principles).
  • Monitor food quality, freshness, and portion sizes, ensuring impeccable presentation before dishes are served to guests.
  • Receive, inspect, and properly store inventory, ensuring accurate rotation (FIFO) and minimizing waste and spoilage.
  • Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with all kitchen staff and front-of-house team members to ensure smooth and timely service.
  • Assist with dishwashing, pot washing, and general kitchen cleanup duties as required to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Actively learn and adapt to new recipes, cooking methods, kitchen procedures, and menu changes under the guidance of senior chefs.
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and productive team environment, upholding Browns Socialhouse values.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in a professional kitchen or restaurant environment.
  • Basic understanding of cooking methods, culinary terminology, ingredients, and standard kitchen equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and maintain composure in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, precision, and an unwavering commitment to food quality and presentation.
  • Excellent ability to follow instructions accurately and work seamlessly as an integral part of a culinary team.
  • Exceptional personal hygiene practices and a solid understanding of food safety and sanitation protocols.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects (up to 25 lbs), and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada, or eligible for employer-sponsored work permits with our support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized culinary arts program or equivalent professional certification.
  • Prior experience working across various kitchen stations (e.g., prep, line, pantry).
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • Valid Food Safe Level 1 certification (or willingness to obtain within first 30 days of employment).
  • Fluency in English (additional languages are considered a valuable asset).
