Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Carpenter to join our dynamic construction team in Diobu, Port Harcourt. The successful candidate will be instrumental in executing a wide range of carpentry tasks crucial to our various building and infrastructure projects. This role demands a keen eye for detail, precision craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of construction principles and safety regulations. You will be responsible for interpreting blueprints, constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials. From framing to finishing, your expertise will ensure the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of our projects. This is a hands-on position requiring proficiency with various carpentry tools and equipment, a commitment to maintaining a clean and organized worksite, and the ability to work effectively as part of a larger project team. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, and other materials.
- Erect framework, including sub-flooring, wall framing, roof framing, and other structural components.
- Install structures and fixtures such as windows, doors, stairs, molding, and hardware.
- Construct, install, and repair wooden scaffolding, temporary shelters, and other construction-related structures.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently, including saws, drills, sanders, and nail guns.
- Inspect and repair damaged wooden structures or fixtures.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company regulations on the job site.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction workers, including masons, electricians, and plumbers.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Estimate quantities of materials required and ensure efficient use of resources.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and construction plans.
- Demonstrated expertise in rough carpentry (framing, formwork) and finish carpentry (trim, cabinet installation).
- Strong knowledge of carpentry tools, equipment, and materials.
- Excellent mathematical skills for measurements and calculations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform demanding tasks.
- Commitment to occupational health and safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade test certificate or relevant vocational training in Carpentry.
