Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care assistance, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, while maintaining client dignity and privacy.
- Assist clients with mobility, transfers, and positioning, utilizing proper body mechanics and assistive devices.
- Administer medication reminders and assist with basic health monitoring as per care plans.
- Prepare nutritious meals and assist with feeding, ensuring dietary needs and preferences are met.
- Perform light housekeeping duties, laundry, and maintain a clean and safe living environment.
- Offer companionship and engage clients in stimulating activities, promoting social interaction and mental well-being.
- Observe and report any changes in client's physical, emotional, or cognitive condition to the nursing staff or supervisor.
- Document care provided accurately and in a timely manner.
- Adhere to all health and safety protocols, company policies, and provincial regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, clients, and their families.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in a caregiving role (e.g., Personal Care Worker, Home Support Worker, Continuing Care Assistant).
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) in English.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a compassionate approach to care.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
- Clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Personal Care Worker, Home Support Worker, or Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) program.
- Experience working with individuals with diverse care needs, including dementia, palliative care, or disabilities.
- Knowledge of health and safety guidelines for senior care.
- Proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
- Understanding of Canadian cultural nuances related to caregiving.
