Job Description

Cardiff and Vale College invites you to join our dedicated team as a Career Coach – Guidance & Planning. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in empowering our diverse student body and community members to navigate the complex world of work, make informed decisions, and achieve their professional aspirations.
As a Career Coach, you will provide comprehensive, one-to-one and group coaching sessions, offering tailored support in career exploration, educational pathway planning, and job search strategies. Your expertise will help individuals identify their unique strengths, interests, and values, translating these into actionable career goals. You’ll be responsible for developing personalised career development plans, setting realistic milestones, and equipping individuals with the tools and confidence needed to succeed. This includes hands-on assistance with crafting compelling CVs and cover letters, refining interview techniques through mock interviews, and exploring various job market opportunities.
Beyond individual consultations, you will design and deliver engaging workshops and presentations on a wide array of career-related topics, from personal branding and networking to sector-specific insights and further education options. A key aspect of your role will be to stay meticulously informed about current labour market trends, emerging industries, and educational and training provisions, ensuring the advice you provide is always relevant, up-to-date, and strategic. You will collaborate closely with academic departments, employers, and external partners to create seamless transitions for our students and enhance their access to meaningful career opportunities.
This role requires a proactive and innovative approach, adapting your coaching style to meet the diverse needs of learners from various backgrounds and at different stages of their career journeys. Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive one-to-one and group career coaching sessions to students and community members.
- Develop personalized career action plans, setting realistic goals and milestones based on individual aspirations.
- Assist individuals with CV writing, cover letter preparation, and advanced interview techniques.
- Design and deliver engaging workshops and presentations on a variety of career development topics.
- Stay abreast of current labour market information, industry trends, and educational and training pathways.
- Collaborate with academic staff, employers, and external partners to enhance career opportunities for clients.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of coaching interactions, progress, and outcomes.
- Promote college services and resources related to career development and further education.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in career coaching, guidance, or counselling.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong active listening, empathy, and questioning abilities to uncover client needs.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, and empower individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency in using career assessment tools and resources.
- In-depth knowledge of job search strategies, recruitment processes, and current labour market trends.
- Excellent organisational skills, time management, and the ability to manage a caseload effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Career Guidance, Coaching, Counselling, or a related field.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CDI, ICF, BPS).
- Experience working within an educational setting, particularly with young adults or adult learners.
- Knowledge of the Welsh education and employment landscape.
- Fluency in Welsh is desirable.
