Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on a diverse fleet of light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles, including gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel systems.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and services according to established schedules and industry best practices to ensure vehicle reliability and longevity.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and software to accurately identify mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Execute repairs on engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, HVAC, and hydraulic systems.
  • Document all maintenance and repair activities accurately and completely, maintaining detailed records of work performed and parts used.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies, contributing to a safe working environment.
  • Perform road tests on vehicles to ensure proper functionality and safety post-repair.
  • Assist in ordering parts and managing inventory as required.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to other team members as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with evolving vehicle technologies and repair methods.

Required Skills

  • Red Seal Journeyman Automotive Mechanic certification or equivalent provincial trade certification.
  • Minimum 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience as a Fleet or Heavy Duty Mechanic.
  • Proven experience with diagnostic software and tools for various vehicle types (gasoline and diesel).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving abstract.
  • Excellent knowledge of vehicle safety systems and operational standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with a large, diverse fleet of vehicles (e.g., postal, courier, trucking).
  • Experience with alternative fuel vehicles (e.g., CNG, Electric) or hydraulic systems.
  • Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician certification.
  • Class 3 or Class 1 driver's license with air brake endorsement.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
  • Proficiency with fleet management software.
