Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of a variety of nutritious meals and snacks according to established recipes, portion control guidelines, and strict food safety standards.
  • Serve meals to students and staff in an efficient, friendly, and courteous manner, ensuring a pleasant dining experience.
  • Perform general kitchen duties, including washing dishes, sanitizing workstations, countertops, and all kitchen equipment and utensils according to hygiene protocols.
  • Help with inventory management tasks, including receiving, rotating, storing, and organizing food supplies to minimize waste and ensure freshness.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, including provincial food handling guidelines, personal hygiene standards, and sanitation protocols.
  • Operate various kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, such as ovens, dishwashers, food processors, and other tools as required.
  • Assist with waste management and recycling initiatives within the cafeteria and kitchen area.
  • Collaborate effectively and communicate openly with cafeteria staff, school personnel, and supervisors to ensure smooth daily operations and problem-solving.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful, and professional attitude towards students, staff, and colleagues at all times.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively within a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact positively with students and staff.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic are absolutely essential.
  • Basic understanding of food safety, hygiene practices, and kitchen sanitation.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 25 lbs, standing for extended periods, bending, and reaching.
  • Willingness to learn new procedures, adapt to changing daily demands, and follow instructions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a kitchen, food service, catering, or institutional environment.
  • Possession of a valid Food Handler's Certificate from a recognized authority.
  • Experience working specifically in a school or other high-volume institutional cafeteria setting.
  • Knowledge of various dietary restrictions and allergen awareness.
