Job Description
Nelly Hotels Calabar is seeking a dedicated and proactive Building Maintenance Officer to join our esteemed estate staff. This crucial full-time role involves overseeing the daily operational integrity and aesthetic appeal of our expansive hotel premises, specifically within the Ikot Ntuen area of Calabar. As a Building Maintenance Officer, you will be the cornerstone of our property’s upkeep, conducting routine inspections, performing preventative maintenance, and promptly addressing any repair needs. Your daily checks will ensure all building systems, infrastructure, and amenities function flawlessly, contributing directly to the comfort and safety of our guests and the efficiency of our operations. This role demands a hands-on approach, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining a high-quality environment. You will work collaboratively with various departments, managing a diverse range of tasks from electrical and plumbing issues to carpentry, painting, and HVAC system checks. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily comprehensive inspections of all hotel facilities, including guest rooms, common areas, back-of-house, and external grounds, to identify and rectify maintenance issues promptly.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on building systems, machinery, and equipment, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and refrigeration units, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Execute timely repairs of fixtures, fittings, furniture, and appliances, addressing guest and staff requests efficiently and with minimal disruption.
- Manage and coordinate external contractors for specialized repairs or installations, ensuring all work meets hotel standards, quality benchmarks, and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, completed repairs, and inventory of tools and supplies used.
- Respond promptly to emergency maintenance calls and troubleshoot critical issues to minimize operational downtime and ensure guest safety.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards within the hotel premises at all times.
- Assist in the upkeep of the hotel's exterior, including landscaping, outdoor lighting, and general cleanliness, in collaboration with other estate staff members.
- Implement energy-saving initiatives and suggest improvements for operational efficiency and sustainability.
- Provide support to other departments for event setups, special projects, or any other needs requiring maintenance assistance.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in general building maintenance or a related field (e.g., hospitality, facility management).
- Strong practical skills in at least two trades, such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and basic schematics.
- Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with guests, staff, and contractors.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a dedicated team.
- Physical stamina and agility to perform manual tasks, lift heavy objects, and work in various environmental conditions.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in maintenance and construction operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or certification in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or a related technical field.
- Previous experience in a hotel or other hospitality environment.
- Knowledge of local building codes and environmental regulations.
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and communication tasks.
- A valid Nigerian driver's license.
