Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled, dedicated, and safety-conscious Bricklayer to join our dynamic construction team. This role is crucial for our ongoing housing and site development projects across various locations within the vibrant city of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. You will be instrumental in constructing and repairing walls, foundations, partitions, arches, and other masonry structures using bricks, blocks, and other building materials. As a key member of our on-site workforce, you will be expected to demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of local building codes, and strict adherence to safety regulations. The ability to accurately interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications is essential to ensure all masonry work aligns with our stringent quality benchmarks and architectural designs. You will contribute significantly to both the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of our developments, helping us deliver projects that stand the test of time and enhance urban landscapes. Key Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine materials required and exact dimensions for masonry work.
- Lay bricks, blocks, and other masonry units in mortar to construct or repair walls, foundations, partitions, and various structural elements.
- Cut and trim bricks and blocks to size using appropriate tools such as trowel, hammer, chisel, and power saws, ensuring precision.
- Mix mortar and grout to the correct consistency, or oversee its preparation by construction labourers.
- Erect scaffolding, hoists, and other temporary structures safely and efficiently as needed to perform tasks at height or with heavy materials.
- Ensure the accurate alignment, spacing, and bonding of masonry units, paying close attention to plumb, level, and square.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, strictly adhering to all site safety protocols and company regulations.
- Inspect finished work to ensure full compliance with building codes, quality standards, and project specifications.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction professionals, including carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and site supervisors.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on tools and equipment to ensure their longevity and safe operation.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in all standard bricklaying techniques and general masonry work.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Strong understanding of various building materials, including bricks, blocks, mortar types, and their properties.
- Excellent manual dexterity, precision, and hand-eye coordination.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction site safety procedures and relevant regulations.
- Physical strength and stamina to perform demanding physical tasks and lift heavy materials.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a productive member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or certification in masonry, bricklaying, or a related construction trade.
- Proven experience working on large-scale residential, commercial, or hospitality construction projects.
- Familiarity with various types of masonry applications, including stone masonry and specialized concrete block laying.
- Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency response procedures specific to a construction site.
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate a range of basic power tools relevant to masonry work.
