Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Mining Operator to join our dynamic team in East Highland, Columbus. As a Mining Operator at BHP, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of various heavy machinery and equipment critical to our operations. This role is crucial for maintaining our production targets and upholding our rigorous safety standards. You will be responsible for operating machinery such as haul trucks, excavators, dozers, and graders, performing pre-start checks, routine maintenance, and reporting any defects or issues promptly. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy mining equipment including haul trucks, excavators, dozers, loaders, and graders in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Conduct pre-start and post-operation checks on all assigned equipment, documenting and reporting any faults or maintenance requirements.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and relevant regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Assist with basic maintenance and servicing of equipment as required, under supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding operational status, potential hazards, and production targets.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, promoting good housekeeping practices.
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Execute tasks according to established operational plans and schedules.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report any deviations from normal operating parameters.
  • Support ground crew activities as needed, including spotting for equipment and assisting with general site duties.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience operating heavy earthmoving and mining equipment.
  • Strong understanding of mining safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to perform routine equipment checks and basic troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work in various environmental conditions.
  • Commitment to maintaining a high level of safety awareness.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with BHP or another major mining company.
  • Relevant certifications in heavy equipment operation.

  • Basic mechanical knowledge for heavy equipment.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
