Are you an experienced and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator looking for a dynamic opportunity with a global industry leader? BHP Group is seeking dedicated Heavy Equipment Operators to join our team, potentially contributing to various operational facets that support resource management and logistics. While our primary operations are global, this role is crucial for localized support functions or specific project needs in key logistical hubs like Savannah. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a range of heavy machinery, playing a pivotal part in our day-to-day operations. This includes, but is not limited to, operating excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and other heavy equipment to move, load, and grade materials, prepare sites, and support general maintenance and construction activities. Key Responsibilities
- Operate various types of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and other machinery, in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform pre-operational checks and routine maintenance on equipment, reporting any malfunctions or necessary repairs promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, company policies, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe working environment.
- Move, load, and transport materials as required, ensuring proper handling and placement.
- Grade and level earth to precise specifications, contributing to site preparation and maintenance.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other personnel regarding operational status, safety concerns, and project updates.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment.
- Assist with manual labor tasks and other duties as assigned when not operating machinery.
- Monitor ground conditions and identify potential hazards to ensure safe equipment operation.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience operating heavy equipment.
- Proficiency in operating multiple types of heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, loaders, dozers).
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment safety procedures and regulations.
- Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and identify mechanical issues.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Excellent spatial awareness and coordination.
- Basic knowledge of site grading and excavation techniques.
- Ability to work effectively in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant heavy equipment operator certifications or licenses.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Experience with GPS-enabled grading systems.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
