Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive geotechnical investigations, including site reconnaissance, drilling supervision, and lab testing oversight.
- Analyze geological and geotechnical data to assess ground conditions, identify potential hazards, and evaluate stability.
- Perform advanced geotechnical analyses, including slope stability, settlement, and bearing capacity, using industry-standard software.
- Develop practical and cost-effective geotechnical design recommendations for foundations, excavations, retaining structures, and ground improvement.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, and drawings in accordance with project requirements and regulatory standards.
- Provide expert geotechnical advice and support during project planning, design, construction, and operational phases.
- Collaborate effectively with civil, structural, mining, and environmental engineers, as well as project managers and external consultants.
- Monitor and interpret geotechnical instrumentation data to assess performance and inform operational adjustments.
- Ensure all work adheres to BHP's stringent safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the team's ongoing professional development.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience as a Geotechnical Engineer.
- Demonstrated expertise in soil and rock mechanics principles.
- Proficiency with geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, WALLAP, Rocscience products).
- Strong understanding of site investigation techniques and geotechnical instrumentation.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
- Proven ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive technical reports.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional accreditation.
- Experience in the mining or heavy civil construction industry.
- Familiarity with geological mapping and interpretation.
- Project management experience or leadership roles in geotechnical projects.
