Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and repair of broadcast equipment, including cameras, audio mixers, vision switchers, routing systems, and non-linear editing suites.
  • Monitor broadcast signals and systems to ensure optimal performance, quality, and adherence to BBC technical standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical faults quickly and efficiently, minimizing downtime during live broadcasts and critical production workflows.
  • Provide technical support and operational assistance for studios, control rooms, and post-production facilities, often under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Install, configure, and integrate new broadcast technologies and software, ensuring compatibility and seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, equipment logs, and fault reports.
  • Adhere strictly to health, safety, and operational procedures, promoting a safe working environment and compliance with industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with production teams, engineers, and IT personnel to ensure smooth operations and project delivery.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in broadcast engineering principles, including video, audio, IP networking, and RF transmission.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for complex broadcast systems and components.
  • Proficiency with professional audio and video equipment (e.g., cameras, switchers, routers, codecs, encoders).
  • Familiarity with broadcast standards (e.g., SDI, SMPTE 2110, AES67).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding, live production environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective technical collaboration and documentation.
  • A strong commitment to quality, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs and work in various technical environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with specific broadcast systems such as Avid Media Composer, Adobe Creative Suite, EVS, Grass Valley, or Lawo.
  • Knowledge of IT networking principles and virtualized broadcast environments.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., SBE Certification, SMPTE).
  • Prior experience working in a major broadcasting organization with high-stakes live productions.
  • Experience with cloud-based broadcast solutions and remote production workflows.
