Job Description

Southern Sun Ikoyi is seeking a passionate and skilled Barista to join our dedicated Café Team within our staff lodging facility. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve a diverse menu of coffee beverages (espresso, latte, cappuccino, etc.), teas, and other specialty drinks according to established recipes and quality standards.
  • Operate and maintain all coffee-making equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, and brewers, ensuring they are always clean and in excellent working condition.
  • Ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and organization in the café area, adhering strictly to food safety regulations.
  • Manage inventory of coffee beans, milk, syrups, pastries, and other supplies, placing orders as needed to prevent shortages.
  • Provide exceptional, friendly, and efficient service to all staff members and lodging guests, remembering preferences and fostering a positive environment.
  • Accurately handle cash and electronic transactions using a Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
  • Maintain a deep knowledge of all menu items, including ingredients and preparation methods, to answer questions and make recommendations.
  • Assist with other café-related duties, such as stocking shelves, setting up displays, and light food preparation, as required.
  • Proactively identify and address any issues or concerns to ensure smooth café operations and guest satisfaction.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of proven experience as a Barista, preferably in a hotel or high-volume café environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, latte art, and various brewing methods.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-centric approach.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a dynamic setting.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly regarding cleanliness and inventory.
  • Basic mathematical skills for handling transactions and managing inventory.
  • A genuine passion for coffee and providing outstanding service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; additional culinary or hospitality training is a plus.
  • Barista certification from a recognized institution.
  • Familiarity with various POS systems.
  • Ability to adapt to new recipes and a changing menu.
  • Prior experience in a staff canteen or lodging facility.
