Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately and efficiently process a wide range of customer financial transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, cheque cashing, loan payments, utility bill payments, and foreign exchange.
  • Manage and meticulously balance a cash drawer daily, ensuring absolute accuracy, adherence to established cash handling procedures, and compliance with all security protocols.
  • Verify customer identities and transaction details thoroughly to prevent fraud and ensure strict compliance with all relevant regulations, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines.
  • Provide prompt, professional, and knowledgeable responses to customer inquiries regarding account balances, transaction history, bank products, and various services.
  • Proactively identify customer needs and enthusiastically cross-sell or refer appropriate Scotiabank products and services (e.g., credit cards, personal loans, investment products, digital banking solutions) to specialized advisors.
  • Maintain a consistently high level of superior customer service, actively building rapport, fostering trust, and ensuring customer satisfaction with every interaction.
  • Adhere strictly to all bank policies, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements, ensuring full compliance and minimizing operational risk.
  • Assist with essential branch opening and closing procedures, including vault operations and security checks, as required.
  • Collaborate effectively and professionally with team members to ensure smooth branch operations, contribute to a positive and productive working environment, and achieve team goals.
  • Safeguard sensitive customer information and maintain absolute confidentiality at all times, upholding the bank's commitment to privacy and data protection.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of proven experience in a cash handling or direct customer service role, preferably in a high-volume environment.
  • Exceptional mathematical aptitude and strong numerical reasoning skills for accurate transaction processing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate information clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with extreme accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and a strong aptitude for quickly learning new banking systems and software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build rapport, effectively resolve customer concerns, and maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, prioritize effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • A high degree of integrity, ethical conduct, and discretion in handling sensitive financial information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An Associate's degree or higher in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Previous experience specifically as a Bank Teller or in a similar transactional role within the financial services industry.
  • Familiarity with banking software, core banking systems, and electronic transaction processing platforms.
  • In-depth knowledge of banking products and services, including savings accounts, checking accounts, loans, and investment options offered by Scotiabank.
  • Demonstrated experience in a sales or referral capacity within a customer-facing environment.
