Mute Records is seeking a dynamic and proactive Band Manager to join our dedicated team in Highgate, London. This is a unique and pivotal opportunity to work directly with both emerging and established artists, guiding their careers, overseeing their projects, and helping them achieve their full creative and commercial potential within an internationally respected independent label.
As a Band Manager, you will serve as the central figure between the artist and all facets of their professional career, encompassing recording cycles, global touring, strategic marketing, and business development. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive career strategies for assigned artists, meticulously aligning with their artistic vision and commercial goals.
- Oversee all aspects of artist projects, including recording schedules, album cycles, promotional campaigns, content creation, and touring logistics.
- Act as the primary point of contact and liaison for artists, providing consistent guidance, support, mentorship, and effective problem-solving.
- Negotiate and manage deals and contracts with record labels, music publishers, promoters, booking agents, brand partners, and other third parties.
- Manage artist budgets, financial planning, expenditure tracking, and royalty statements, ensuring transparency, fiscal responsibility, and compliance.
- Cultivate and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key industry stakeholders, including A&R, marketing, publicity, live agents, legal teams, and press.
- Coordinate and drive marketing and publicity efforts, working closely with Mute Records' internal teams and external partners to maximise reach and impact.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, strategic brand partnerships, and diverse revenue streams for artists.
- Monitor global industry trends, market changes, competitive landscape, and technological advancements to inform strategic decisions and artist positioning.
- Handle day-to-day administrative tasks related to artist management, ensuring smooth operations and timely communication.
Required Skills
- Minimum 4 years (48 months) of verifiable experience in artist management, A&R, or a directly related role within the music industry.
- Demonstrable and in-depth understanding of diverse music business models, including recording, publishing, touring, merchandising, and digital monetization.
- Exceptional negotiation, contract management, and deal-making skills.
- Strong financial acumen, with proven experience in budgeting, financial planning, and interpreting financial reports.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and confident presentation abilities.
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently with initiative and as an integral part of a collaborative team.
- A high degree of professionalism, discretion, and unwavering ethical conduct.
- Proficiency in music industry software, project management tools, and standard office productivity suites (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).
- Valid UK driving license and a willingness to travel extensively as required for artist commitments, meetings, and events.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Arts Management, Marketing, Media Studies, or a related field.
- An established and robust network of contacts within the UK and international music industry.
- Previous experience working with a diverse roster of both established and emerging artists across various genres.
- Advanced knowledge of digital music distribution platforms, streaming analytics, and social media marketing strategies for artists.
- Fluency in additional languages is considered a significant asset.
