Job Description
Hewa Tele Express is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Auto Mechanic with strong garage and field support capabilities to join our dynamic team in Bukavu, South Kivu Province. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the operational readiness and efficiency of our diverse fleet of vehicles, ranging from light delivery vans to heavy-duty trucks. This position offers a unique blend of workshop-based maintenance and crucial field support, requiring a versatile individual capable of diagnosing and resolving mechanical issues both within our garage facility and on the road. You will be responsible for performing routine preventative maintenance, executing complex repairs, and responding to emergency breakdowns with speed and precision, often in challenging environments. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of diesel and petrol engines, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and general vehicle mechanics. You must be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and quality workmanship. Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics on various vehicle types (light and heavy commercial vehicles) using modern diagnostic equipment and traditional troubleshooting methods.
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid checks, to extend vehicle lifespan and prevent costly breakdowns.
- Execute complex mechanical repairs on engines, transmissions, differentials, braking systems, steering components, and suspension systems.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults, including wiring, sensors, lighting, and charging systems.
- Provide rapid response and effective roadside assistance for vehicle breakdowns in the field, often requiring independent problem-solving and on-the-spot repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work, including parts used and hours spent, utilizing our digital tracking systems.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company guidelines, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
- Order and manage spare parts inventory, ensuring availability of critical components while minimizing waste.
- Collaborate with fleet management to schedule maintenance and prioritize repairs to optimize vehicle availability.
- Continuously update technical knowledge and skills regarding new vehicle technologies and repair techniques.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the garage workshop and service vehicles.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an Auto Mechanic, particularly with heavy commercial vehicles.
- Strong knowledge of diesel and petrol engine systems, including diagnostics and overhaul.
- Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting and repair, including reading wiring diagrams.
- Expertise in hydraulic and pneumatic systems common in commercial vehicles.
- Ability to perform brake system repairs, suspension maintenance, and steering system adjustments.
- Competency in using diagnostic tools and software.
- Valid driving license (Category B/C/D is an advantage).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently in field conditions and under pressure.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical diploma or certification in Automotive Mechanics or a related field.
- Experience with specific vehicle brands common in the DRC logistics sector (e.g., Mercedes-Benz, MAN, Fuso, Toyota Land Cruiser).
- Familiarity with fleet management software and vehicle tracking systems.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills.
- Fluency in Swahili and/or French is a plus.
