Job Description
Calabar International School is seeking an enthusiastic and highly creative Arts Teacher to join our dynamic faculty. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to inspire students across various age groups, fostering their artistic talents and appreciation for diverse art forms. As an Arts Teacher, you will be instrumental in designing and delivering engaging lessons in creative studies, including visual arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and potentially digital art or art history, depending on your specialization and school needs. You will be responsible for developing a stimulating classroom environment that encourages experimentation, self-expression, and critical analysis of art. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive and engaging arts curriculum for students across various grade levels, aligning with educational standards.
- Deliver high-quality, inspiring classroom instruction in visual arts (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media) and potentially other creative disciplines.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression.
- Assess student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and maintaining accurate records of student performance.
- Organize and supervise student art exhibitions, workshops, and school-wide artistic events to showcase student talent.
- Manage and maintain art supplies, equipment, and studio spaces, ensuring a safe and organized learning environment.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and school administration to support student learning and development.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in art education and pedagogical approaches.
- Integrate art history, theory, and cultural contexts into lessons to enrich students' understanding and appreciation of art.
- Mentor and guide students in developing their artistic portfolios and preparing for higher education or careers in the arts.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience teaching art at primary, secondary, or an equivalent level.
- Proficiency in various art mediums and techniques (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art).
- Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Portfolio showcasing personal artistic work and/or student projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Art Education or a relevant artistic discipline.
- Teaching certification or license specific to Art Education.
- Experience with international curricula (e.g., Cambridge, IB).
- Familiarity with educational technology and its application in art instruction.
- Experience organizing school-wide art events or exhibitions.
