Job Description

We are seeking a highly talented and driven Architect with a passion for innovative design and meticulous planning to join our dynamic team in Kisangani, Tshopo Province. As an Architect – Design & Planning, you will play a pivotal role in the conceptualization, development, and execution of diverse architectural projects, ranging from commercial buildings and public infrastructure to residential complexes, all within the challenging and rewarding context of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This position requires a professional who can blend creative vision with practical application, ensuring that designs are not only aesthetically pleasing and functional but also technically sound, sustainable, and compliant with all local building codes and international standards. You will be instrumental in translating client aspirations and project requirements into detailed architectural plans, specifications, and visual representations. The role demands a proactive individual who can manage multiple design phases, from initial sketches and feasibility studies through to final construction documentation. You will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, including structural engineers, M&E specialists, urban planners, and project managers, to ensure seamless integration of various components and a cohesive project outcome.

Furthermore, you will be expected to present design proposals to clients and stakeholders, articulate design rationale, and incorporate feedback effectively. A deep understanding of sustainable design principles, local materials, and construction techniques prevalent in the region will be highly valued. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the conceptual and schematic design phases for various architectural projects, ensuring alignment with client briefs and project objectives.
  • Develop detailed architectural drawings, specifications, and tender documents using industry-standard software.
  • Conduct site analyses and feasibility studies to inform design decisions and address environmental and logistical constraints.
  • Collaborate effectively with structural engineers, MEP engineers, urban planners, and other specialists to integrate all project components.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling presentations of design proposals to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure all designs comply with local building regulations, zoning laws, safety standards, and international best practices.
  • Oversee the selection and specification of appropriate materials, finishes, and systems, considering local availability and sustainability.
  • Participate in project meetings, site visits, and construction oversight to ensure design intent is maintained during execution.
  • Manage design revisions and adjustments based on client feedback, site conditions, or regulatory changes.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and adherence to quality standards.
  • Mentor junior architectural staff and foster a culture of creative excellence and technical rigor.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in architectural design and planning, preferably with experience in large-scale projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and other relevant architectural design software.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of architectural projects.
  • Excellent understanding of construction methods, materials, and structural systems.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and regulations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Architecture or a related field.
  • Professional architectural registration (e.g., Ordre National des Architectes du Congo).
  • Experience working on projects in sub-Saharan Africa or similar developing regions.
  • Proficiency in French and/or Swahili.
  • Experience with sustainable design principles and green building certifications.
  • Knowledge of project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
