Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough market research and analysis of emerging artists, musical trends, and industry developments.
- Assist A&R and programming teams in scouting and evaluating potential talent through demos, live performances, and digital platforms.
- Manage and organize artist submissions, maintaining a comprehensive database of contacts and project statuses.
- Provide administrative support to the A&R department, including scheduling meetings, coordinating travel arrangements, and processing expense reports.
- Liaise with internal departments such as legal, marketing, promotions, and production to ensure seamless project execution.
- Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and summaries on artist performance, radio airplay, streaming data, and competitive analysis.
- Attend live shows, industry showcases, and music conferences to network and stay abreast of the local and national music scene.
- Assist in the coordination of recording sessions, content creation, and promotional activities for signed or emerging artists.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and intellectual property related to artists and projects.
- Contribute creative ideas and insights to team discussions regarding artist development and market strategy.
Required Skills
- Profound passion for music across diverse genres and a keen understanding of the Canadian music industry.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French (bilingualism is highly advantageous in Quebec).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and comfortable with digital music platforms.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Proactive attitude with a strong work ethic and a desire to learn and grow within the industry.
- Basic knowledge of music production workflows and intellectual property rights is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Arts Administration, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
- Previous internship or entry-level experience (1+ year) in the music industry (e.g., record label, publishing company, artist management, radio station, music venue).
- Demonstrated experience with CRM software or database management systems.
- Familiarity with music analytics tools (e.g., Spotify for Artists, Chartmetric, Soundcharts).
- A strong network within the local music scene in Gatineau/Ottawa or Quebec.
- Experience attending and reporting on live music events.
