Warner Music Canada is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented A&R Assistant to join our dynamic team in Burlington, Ontario. While our main operations are in Toronto, this role is strategically based in Burlington to tap into and support the vibrant local music scene, offering a gateway to talent outside the immediate downtown core. You’ll be an integral part of the A&R department, providing essential administrative, creative, and logistical support, ensuring smooth operations from demo review to artist showcases.

You’ll work closely with A&R Managers, artists, producers, and other departments, gaining invaluable experience across the entire artist development lifecycle. Your daily tasks will range from managing submissions and scouting local gigs to coordinating studio sessions and contributing to creative discussions. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and screen incoming demo submissions, providing initial feedback and recommendations to A&R Managers.
  • Conduct ongoing research and scouting for new artists, producers, and songwriters across various platforms and local music scenes in Burlington and surrounding areas.
  • Assist A&R Managers with scheduling meetings, studio sessions, and travel arrangements for artists and producers.
  • Maintain and organize the A&R department's databases, contact lists, and project files.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and creative briefs for A&R meetings and artist development discussions.
  • Liaise with internal departments (marketing, legal, publicity) and external partners (managers, agents) to facilitate artist projects.
  • Attend live shows, showcases, and industry events (both locally and occasionally in Toronto) to identify and evaluate talent.
  • Support the creative process by sourcing beats, samples, and collaborators, and providing feedback on song mixes and masters.
  • Handle general administrative duties as required to ensure the efficient operation of the A&R department.

Required Skills

  • 1-2 years of experience in the music industry (record label, management, publishing, or related field) or relevant internships.
  • Demonstrated passion for music across diverse genres and a deep understanding of current music trends and culture.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Arts Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with music industry software and platforms (e.g., streaming analytics tools, project management software).
  • Experience with audio editing software (e.g., Logic Pro, Ableton, Pro Tools) is a plus.
  • Active network within the local music community in Southern Ontario.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
