Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc (SAHCOL) is seeking dedicated and reliable Airport Baggage Handlers to join our vibrant team at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, serving Zuba, Abuja and its environs. As a Baggage Handler, you will be instrumental in the smooth flow of airport logistics, directly impacting passenger satisfaction and flight punctuality. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently load and unload passenger baggage, cargo, and mail onto and from aircraft.
- Operate various ground support equipment (GSE) such as belt loaders, pushback tugs, baggage carts, and forklifts, following strict safety guidelines.
- Transport baggage between the terminal, sorting areas, and aircraft with precision and care.
- Sort and route baggage to the correct flights and destinations, ensuring timely delivery and minimizing misroutes.
- Perform thorough pre-departure and post-arrival checks on ground support equipment to ensure operational readiness and report any malfunctions immediately.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, airport authority regulations, and aviation security protocols.
- Communicate effectively with flight crews, ramp supervisors, and other team members to ensure coordinated operations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment on the ramp and in baggage handling areas.
- Assist with other ground handling duties as required, including marshalling aircraft and cleaning aircraft cabins when necessary.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 70 lbs or 32 kg) consistently and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong physical stamina and endurance to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- High level of attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to read flight manifests and safety procedures.
- Valid driver's license (Class E or equivalent) for operating ground support equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a ground handling, warehousing, logistics, or similar physically demanding role.
- Familiarity with airport operations and aviation terminology.
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Certification in operating specific ground support equipment.
