Working within the fast-paced airside environment, you will be responsible for the safe and timely loading and unloading of luggage, freight, and mail onto and off aircraft, adhering strictly to all safety and security protocols. This position demands a keen eye for detail, a strong commitment to teamwork, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions. You will operate ground support equipment (GSE), sort bags, and transport items between the terminal and aircraft, ensuring all procedures comply with aviation regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently load and unload passenger baggage, cargo, and mail onto and from aircraft.
  • Operate ground support equipment (GSE) such as baggage tugs, belt loaders, and forklifts (with proper training and certification).
  • Sort and transport baggage to and from the terminal and aircraft according to flight schedules and destinations.
  • Adhere strictly to all company, airport, and aviation authority safety and security regulations and procedures.
  • Inspect baggage for damage and report any irregularities or concerns to supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with flight crews, ground operations staff, and other airport personnel.
  • Perform routine checks and report any maintenance issues with ground support equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area on the ramp and in baggage handling areas.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to ensure on-time departures and arrivals.
  • Assist passengers with special baggage requirements as needed.

Required Skills

  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 70 lbs or 32 kg) repeatedly.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions (heat, rain, etc.) in an outdoor environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a physically demanding role, warehousing, or logistics.
  • Valid driver's license (DRC Class B or higher).
  • Knowledge of airport operations or aviation safety procedures.
  • Fluency in Lingala, Swahili, or other local languages in addition to French.
  • A diploma or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., logistics, mechanical operations).
