B&M Retail Ltd is seeking a dedicated Accounts Payable Clerk to join our dynamic team at our Maghull location. Key Responsibilities

  • Process a high volume of vendor invoices accurately and efficiently, ensuring proper coding and approval.
  • Reconcile vendor statements, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Prepare and execute vendor payments, including BACS runs and cheque payments, in line with payment terms.
  • Maintain accurate and organised filing systems for all accounts payable documentation, both physical and electronic.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors and internal departments to resolve payment queries and issues.
  • Assist with month-end closing procedures related to accounts payable.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, financial controls, and relevant accounting standards.
  • Support the finance team with ad-hoc tasks and projects as required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance accounts payable processes.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in an Accounts Payable or Purchase Ledger role.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial reconciliation.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, SAP) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage a high volume workload and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving aptitude with a proactive approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AAT qualification or working towards an accounting qualification.
  • Experience within the retail industry.
  • Familiarity with large ERP systems.
  • Experience with automated accounts payable systems.
