Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Payable Clerk to join our busy finance team in Newcastle upon Tyne for an immediate start. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong organisational skills and a keen eye for accuracy to play a crucial role in our financial operations. As an Accounts Payable Clerk, you will be responsible for processing a high volume of invoices, ensuring timely and accurate payments to our suppliers, and maintaining excellent vendor relationships. You will work closely with various departments, managing payment runs, reconciling statements, and resolving discrepancies efficiently. Key Responsibilities

  • Process a high volume of supplier invoices, credit notes, and expense claims accurately and efficiently.
  • Match purchase orders to invoices and resolve any discrepancies promptly.
  • Prepare and execute weekly and monthly payment runs, ensuring all payments are authorised and made on time.
  • Reconcile supplier statements to ledger accounts, investigating and resolving any outstanding issues.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date supplier master data.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers and internal departments to resolve payment queries.
  • Assist with month-end closing procedures related to accounts payable.
  • Support the wider finance team with ad-hoc tasks and projects as required.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and financial regulations.
  • Assist in audit preparations by providing necessary documentation and explanations.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as an Accounts Payable Clerk or in a similar finance role.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUPs, pivot tables).
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AAT qualification or working towards one.
  • Experience within the construction or housebuilding industry.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting standards.
