Job Description

GraceKennedy Limited is seeking dedicated and robust Port Workers to join our dynamic shipping and dock operations team in Edgewater, Portmore. As a Port Worker, you will be an essential part of our supply chain, responsible for the efficient and safe handling of goods, ensuring that products move seamlessly through our distribution center. In this role, you will work within a supportive team environment, engaging in the critical tasks of loading and unloading cargo from various transport vehicles, including trucks and containers. You will be responsible for the proper storage, organization, and inventory management of goods within our warehouse and dock areas. Key Responsibilities

  • Load and unload cargo from shipping containers, trucks, and other transport vehicles using various equipment and manual methods.
  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment as required (training provided if necessary, certification preferred).
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing shipments for damage, discrepancies, and proper documentation.
  • Organize and store goods in designated warehouse areas, adhering to inventory management and safety guidelines.
  • Prepare outbound shipments by accurately counting, weighing, and labelling items according to company standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment on the dock and within storage areas at all times.
  • Assist with inventory counts and reconciliation as needed, ensuring accuracy of stock levels.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or incidents promptly to supervision.

Required Skills

  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in counting and recording information.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills to understand instructions, complete documentation, and perform calculations.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid Forklift Operator certification.
  • Previous experience (at least 6 months) in a warehouse, shipping, dock, or similar industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of basic inventory management principles and practices.
  • Experience with various types of material handling equipment.
