Job Description

Arik Air is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Flight Dispatcher to join our operations team based in Uyo. This critical role is at the heart of our flight operations, ensuring the safety, efficiency, and legality of every flight. As a Flight Dispatcher, you will be jointly responsible with the pilot-in-command for the operational control of flights, from planning to execution and monitoring. Your expertise will be crucial in analyzing weather conditions, calculating fuel requirements, planning optimal flight routes, and evaluating various operational factors that impact flight safety and performance.

This position demands meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of aviation regulations, and excellent decision-making capabilities under pressure. You will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring continuous coordination with pilots, air traffic control, maintenance teams, and ground operations. Your primary objective will be to provide the pilot-in-command with all necessary information to ensure a safe and efficient flight, including but not limited to, weather reports, NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen), airport conditions, and operational restrictions. You will also be instrumental in preparing the flight release and dispatch documentation, ensuring compliance with all Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regulations and Arik Air’s operational policies. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional who is passionate about aviation safety and operational excellence to contribute significantly to one of West Africa’s premier airlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Jointly responsible with the pilot-in-command for flight operational control.
  • Prepare, sign, and issue flight release and dispatch documentation.
  • Analyze and interpret meteorological information, NOTAMs, and other operational data.
  • Calculate aircraft fuel requirements, considering route, payload, and weather conditions.
  • Plan optimal flight routes, adhering to air traffic control restrictions and airspace requirements.
  • Monitor ongoing flights, providing pilots with updated weather, NOTAMs, and other pertinent information.
  • Coordinate with pilots, air traffic control, maintenance, and ground staff to ensure seamless operations.
  • Develop and implement contingency plans for irregular operations, diversions, or emergencies.
  • Ensure strict compliance with NCAA regulations, international aviation standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of all flight dispatch activities and operational decisions.

Required Skills

  • NCAA Flight Dispatcher License (current and valid)
  • Proficiency in flight planning software and navigation tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and make critical decisions
  • Thorough understanding of aviation meteorology, air navigation, and aircraft performance
  • Knowledge of Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (NCARs) and international aviation standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Additional certifications in aviation safety or operations management
  • Experience with a major commercial airline operations center
  • Familiarity with Uyo airport operations and regional airspace
