Key Responsibilities

  • Operate dishwashing equipment (manual and automated) to clean all kitchenware, cookware, and serving dishes efficiently and to the highest sanitary standards.
  • Sort and stack clean dishes, ensuring they are stored in their designated areas for easy access by kitchen and service staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing area, including floors, walls, and shelving, throughout the shift.
  • Assist with basic food preparation tasks as needed, such as washing and peeling vegetables, under the supervision of kitchen staff.
  • Empty trash receptacles regularly and maintain cleanliness of waste areas.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floors at scheduled intervals and as needed to maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Support the culinary team by retrieving ingredients, moving equipment, and assisting with general kitchen duties.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment, including ovens, grills, fryers, and prep surfaces, are cleaned and maintained according to established schedules and safety protocols.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the kitchen management immediately.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and regulations.
  • Participate in inventory management of cleaning supplies and communicate needs to management.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team and follow instructions.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying heavy items (up to 50 lbs) and standing for extended periods.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a kitchen steward or in a similar role within a restaurant or hospitality setting.
  • Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment and dishwashing machinery.
  • Food Handler's Certificate (or willingness to obtain one upon hire).
  • A positive attitude and a proactive approach to tasks.
