Key Responsibilities
- Execute precise masonry work, including the accurate laying of bricks, blocks, and stones according to detailed plans and specifications.
- Mix, apply, and finish mortar, concrete, plaster, and other building materials with consistency and expertise.
- Construct and repair various structures such as walls, partitions, floors, foundations, and other architectural elements.
- Carefully read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine exact specifications and accurately calculate material quantities required.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, and light construction equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist in general construction activities, including site preparation, excavation support, framing, roofing, and finishing tasks as needed.
- Ensure all work performed strictly complies with relevant building codes, industry safety regulations, and project-specific quality standards.
- Collaborate effectively and professionally with other construction team members, supervisors, and external subcontractors to achieve project goals.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and proper storage of tools and equipment, and maintain a tidy and organized work area.
- Proactively identify and report any potential hazards, safety concerns, or structural inconsistencies on the job site to management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a builder, mason, or general construction worker in a professional setting.
- Strong understanding of traditional and modern masonry techniques, concrete work, and general construction best practices.
- Proficiency in using a wide range of construction tools and equipment, including levels, trowels, saws, mixers, and scaffolding.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and construction specifications.
- Excellent physical stamina, strength, dexterity, and the ability to work in various weather conditions and demanding environments.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to delivering high-quality, durable workmanship.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety procedures and regulations applicable to construction sites.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team, communicating clearly and supporting collective objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade test certification (e.g., National Technical Certificate) in Masonry, Building Construction, or a closely related vocational field.
- Experience working on large-scale commercial, industrial, or public infrastructure projects with major construction firms.
- Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and construction standards specific to Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
- Valid driver's license with experience operating light construction vehicles (if required for specific site duties).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
